General election season is upon us. That means signs for various candidates will begin to start popping up throughout the Township.
While these types of signs are exempt from Township permitting requirements, there are limitations on size and placement. First, to be exempt from permitting requirements, the signs must be six square feet or less in area. Political signs are permitted on private property, but can only be placed within the road right-of-way if the location of the sign does not create a hazard. Lastly, political signs are not permitted to be installed on any poles owned and operated by a private utility such as PECO.
While the Township can regulate signs based on size and placement, we cannot regulate signs based on content. Therefore, we do not restrict when signs are permitted in relation to Election Day.
